Most drinks don't have a story worth telling. Melo does. Here's where it starts.
It starts in the South Pacific Islands
Kava — piper methysticum — grows across the Pacific Islands, but the South Pacific Islands, and Vanuatu in particular, is where the highest quality noble kava in the world comes from. The root systems there have been cultivated for over 3,000 years, producing kavalactone profiles that are balanced, potent, and consistent.
Melo sources exclusively from partner farms in the South Pacific Islands through our partnership with the UN and ITC Pacific Islands' Kava Initiative — a commitment to ethical sourcing that supports the long-term sustainability of kava farming communities and the livelihoods of the farmers who have been cultivating this plant for generations.
Not all kava is equal. The difference between noble kava — the traditional variety used in Pacific Island ceremonies for millennia — and low-quality tudei kava is significant. Noble kava produces clean, balanced calm. Tudei kava produces nausea and lethargy. Melo uses only noble kava root. That distinction matters more than most kava brands will tell you.
The extraction process
Traditional kava preparation involves grinding the root into a powder and mixing it with water — a process that produces a thick, earthy drink that is very much an acquired taste. Effective, but not exactly something you'd reach for on a Friday evening.
Melo's process takes the active kavalactones from the noble kava root and extracts them cleanly — preserving the potency and the effect while leaving behind the earthiness that makes traditional kava difficult for most people to enjoy. The result is a sparkling drink that actually tastes good. Not "good for a kava drink." Actually good.
The extraction is done carefully to maintain the integrity of the kavalactone profile — meaning the calm, social, clear-headed effect that kava is known for comes through consistently in every can.
What goes into every can
Three flavors. All built on the same foundation:

Tahitian Lime — crisp, bright, drinks like a sparkling margarita Banana Cream — smooth, tropical, perfectly balanced Passionfruit Orange Guava — bold, fruity, no bitter aftertaste
Each flavor is designed to be genuinely enjoyable — not something you tolerate for the effect, but something you actually look forward to.
From the South Pacific Islands to your can
The journey from kava root to finished can involves sourcing, extraction, formulation, and manufacturing — all done with the same commitment to quality and transparency that starts at the farm level.
Melo is manufactured under FDA oversight. Every batch is consistent. Every can delivers the same effect — calm in 10 to 15 minutes, social ease, no hangover, clean finish.
That's the whole point. A drink that works, tastes great, and you can feel good about reaching for.
